Kapoor and Sons tells us a tell about a dysfunctional family and how they come up with their problems.
Quite clichéd, right? Yes. But is it boring? Hell no!
Last year, Dil Dhadkne do (DDD) released and was about a dysfunctional family as well. I expected Kapoor and Sons to be more on the lines of DDD. DDD disappointed me a lot. But Kapoor and Sons didn’t.
To be honest I went into this movie with low expectations because; I found the trailer okayish, songs average and the story of two guys fall for one girl way too done.
The beauty of this movie lies with the connectivity with the characters. You are connected instantly and root for the characters. Director Shakun Batra has directed this movie well, he knew what he wanted to get out from his characters. The first half is breezy and keeps you entertained. The second half, I felt was a bit drag. Some unnecessary portions brings the pace of the movie down.
Performance wise, Fawad Khan led the pack. How good is he? I was floored by his performance. He gets into the character of an elder brother with such ease. He is staying in Bollywood for a long long time.
Siddharth Malhotra is again unfortunately average in this movie. He fails to shine lke Fawad in any scene. No doubt, he is capable, but again, this is an average performance by him in the role of a younger brother jealous of his elder brother because of the preference that is given to him
Alia Bhatt plays her role well. She is bubbly, chirpy, and acts well. She looks adorable as Tia.
Ratna Pathak and Rajat Kapoor have justified their chracters well. They both are always a delight on screen.
Rishi Kapoor as the grandfather has the best lines and has acted very well. This guy is like a bottle of wine, gets better and better with age.
This movie isn’t flawless, it has its share of flaws. The movie gets a bit predictable. Some portions of the movie are drag. You may loose connection with the movie and characters at certain points. Movie is ticking at 140 minutes which is a bit lengthy. Humour sometimes seems to be forced.
Overall, this movie is a good watch.
I rate this movie a “B+”
